DAY 4: EDINBURGH to ST. ANDREWS - Friday, May 25th

This morning we moved out of our room in the Alexander Guest House and left our luggage in ground floor dining room room as arranged with our hostess. We headed out toward the bake shop where we enjoyed brunch our first morning. Today they were just as good as before. Wish we could have been there for afternoon tea (perhaps on our return).
After breakfast we Ubered to Edinburgh Castle for our tour. It was very interesting. We feel we have a better grasp of Scotland's royal history from their first king to their last. We learned more about the various King Malcolms, and visited a tiny chapel built in memory of Malcolm III's Queen (later Saint) Margaret by her youngest son. We also saw the Scottish Crown Jewels and the Stone of Scone.
The view from the castle was stunning and extended to the coastline of Fife.
After leaving the castle, we caught a cab back to the guest house to pick up our luggage and on to the train station.
After buying our tickets, we picked up some pasties (Cornish meat pies) from a food stand in the station and boarded the train. We ate and watched the scenery change from urban to coastal to rural, and after just an hour we were in Leuchars,  where we transferred to a bus  for a 10 minute ride to St.Andrews. From there we took a short taxi ride to our home for the next 9 days. Alison welcomed us warmly and introduced us to her family, including a very sweet and friendly German shepherd. Our suite is lovely and so is the area. We took a quick walk to find the bus stop we will use tomorrow to head into town.

Everything is blooming here. This is near where we are staying.
