DAY 13: BACK TO EDINBURGH
This morning we said farewell to our wonderful host and hostess, and accepted their offer of a ride to the bus station to catch our express bus to Edinburgh.
Afterwards we found a place to have a delicious supper accompanied by Irish musicians. It was a satisfying end to another day of lovely surprises.
We arrived in Edinburgh just after noon and took a Uber to our hotel for the next 2 nights, the Britannia Edinburgh. There is no way the hospitality here can hold a candle to the superb accommodations Alison provided us for the past 9 days.
One of our goals was to attend an Evensong service, and we found one an easy walk from our hotel at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The route took us in part via a path along the Water of Leith, which runs right past our hotel. A waterfall we hear outside our window will lull us to sleep tonight. The exercise we got climbing up to street level will help, too.
The Evensong was a time of quiet ministry through worshipful music in a setting of a majestic cathedral. For the second time on this trip, we sang "Be Thou my Vision." The other hymn was a familiar tune (we know it as the Doxology) with different words ("All people that on earth do dwell")
